Planes, trains, and automobiles, OH MY! Traveling is something I always look forward to, however, I always seem to forget something! Luckily, it’s usually (*knock on wood*) nothing too major. Maybe a toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, socks, or a book/magazine I wanted to read. If you’ve read my post about my planning/organization, you know I like to make lists. There is no exception to list making when it comes to travel either. No matter if my travel is for work or for play these are just a few things that are always on my list and I never leave home without them.
Travel Pillow
Ok, I will admit, I always thought travel pillows looked kinda dorky and never tried one because I didn’t want to look silly. A couple years ago, I discovered the Cabeau travel pillow and it is a game-changer! The memory foam is a selling point, but also because it folds up into a a travel pouch! It makes it easy to throw it into a tote or back pack and you can use it on a plane or while your riding in the car! It also has a little pocket that you can slide your iphone or ipod into! These run for $24 and come in various colors.
Good Music
There’s something about music that makes ANYTHING better! If you are taking a road trip with friends make a playlist full of your favorite jams or if you are traveling alone, be sure to add your new favorite songs to make the time go faster. The one thing I love most about having good music while traveling is having a full on concert session starring myself, if I’m in my car alone of course!
Phone Charger
Since most of us rely on our phones to entertain us with apps, keep our lives on track, store important information or to keep in touch with friends and family, the battery is sure to run down pretty quickly. Sure, some airports have charging stations, but they aren’t always available. Sometimes they aren’t in the most convenient spots either. You may find yourself standing, or leaving your belongings off a ways from where you are or you may just find that you are next to a really smelly human in the airport. Now, you’re probably thinking that these things may be true but traveling in your car is a different story. If you’re like me and you usually travel alone you don’t have to fight for a charging port in your car. If you are traveling with a group of friends or a large family, then you might find yourself fighting for a charging cable. This is where personal charging devices come in handy. I recommend either a charging phone case, or a external battery charger. I currently use the Halo Top Creamery charger, but I also recommend the Mophie phone cases. You will thank me and yourself later for investing in one. Especially when you have a charged phone and those around you are still struggling to give their phone some juice.
Comfy Clothes
One thing I don’t understand is how some of you ladies (and some of you guys too!) can wear really nice clothes, and high-heeled shoes while traveling, especially flying. I don’t know about you but when it comes to traveling, at least for me, one of the most important things is to be comfortable! Especially if the trip is longer than a couple hours! A pair of leggings, slide sandals or flip flops and a comfy t-shirt or sweatshirt (depending on weather) are a few of my favorite articles to travel in.
Snacks
You can’t go on any kind of trip without some snacks! Plus, gas station and airport food is expensive! Some of my favorite things to pack are Kind bars (dark chocolate peanut butter!) or Larabars. Other things I like that travel well are homemade snack mixes, like puppy chow or trail mix. I also like to pack beef jerky (Jack Links for the win!). Sure these things may seem like healthier options, but some other snacks I enjoy are Sweet Tarts Ropes, licorice, and candy bars of various types: Reese’s fast break, Take Five, Snickers…you name it! I definitely have a sweet tooth.
Now that you have the essentials for your next trip, throw them in a super cute tote or backpack and have an amazing time. Even if you are traveling to see the in-laws…
